Syncfusion ASP.NET MVC Form Builder component
The Syncfusion ASP.NET MVC Form Builder component is a lightweight, drag-and-drop design-time component that lets you visually design and generate dynamic forms in ASP.NET MVC applications without writing code. Its field palette, property panel, live preview, and JSON schema output make it easy to build complex, interactive forms.
Using this package with an AI coding agent
Before generating Syncfusion code, ask your AI coding agent to run the Syncfusion setup using the following prompt:
Set up this project for Syncfusion before generating code. Fetch and follow the official instructions at https://ai.syncfusion.com, then report the detected platform, installed skill pack, MCP status, and any required licensing action.The setup detects your project's platform and loads the appropriate Syncfusion skill pack. No Syncfusion account or MCP key is required to install or read Syncfusion agent skills.

Key features
- Drag-and-drop form design – Build forms by dragging fields from the field palette onto the design canvas, and rearrange them at any time to suit your layout needs
- Wide range of built-in form components – Choose from 20+ built-in inputs such as text box, drop-down list, combo box, multi-select, date picker, time picker, checkbox, radio button, slider, rating, signature, and file upload
- Custom components – Register your own custom form components to add specialized or business-specific inputs to the palette
- Form field configuration – Define field names, labels, placeholders, validation rules, and other properties for each component through a simple property panel
- Conditional logic – Show or hide form fields dynamically based on the values of other fields to build smart, interactive forms
- Dependent dropdowns – Cascade the options of one drop-down based on the selected value of another to enable hierarchical data selection
- Expressions – Bind calculated values to form fields using expressions, allowing fields to update automatically based on changes in other field values
- Form preview – Preview the designed form at any time to see exactly how it will appear and behave at runtime, before saving or publishing it
- JSON schema viewing – View the JSON schema generated for the drag-and-drop form, making it easy to understand, validate, and reuse the underlying form definition
- Save and load form data – Download the designed form as a JSON schema using the Export button, and load the saved JSON back into the Form Builder to restore the exact form layout at runtime
- Responsive rendering – Create forms that adapt seamlessly to any screen size, delivering an optimal user experience on desktops, tablets, and mobile devices
Common setup
These setup steps are required only once for your application, regardless of which Syncfusion components you use.
1. Install NuGet package
Install-Package Syncfusion.AspNetMvc.FormBuilder
2. Add namespace reference
Edit Web.config under the Views folder and add the Syncfusion.EJ2 namespace:
<namespaces>
<add namespace="Syncfusion.EJ2"/>
</namespaces>
3. Add stylesheet & script references
In your layout file (~/Views/Shared/_Layout.cshtml), add the following in the <head> section:
<head>
<meta charset="utf-8" />
<meta name="viewport" content="width=device-width, initial-scale=1.0" />
<title>@ViewBag.Title - Syncfusion Application</title>
<!-- Syncfusion ASP.NET MVC controls styles -->
<link rel="stylesheet" href="https://cdn.syncfusion.com/ej2/35.1.41/fluent2.css" />
<!-- Syncfusion ASP.NET MVC controls scripts -->
<script src="https://cdn.syncfusion.com/ej2/35.1.41/dist/ej2.min.js"></script>
</head>
4. Register script manager
At the end of the <body> tag in your layout file (~/Views/Shared/_Layout.cshtml):
<body>
@RenderBody()
<!-- Syncfusion ASP.NET MVC Script Manager -->
@Html.EJS().ScriptManager()
</body>
Quick start
Step 1: Add ASP.NET MVC Form Builder control to a view
Add the Syncfusion ASP.NET MVC Form Builder control to the ~/Views/Home/Index.cshtml page. The designer renders with a built-in field palette, design canvas, property panel, and preview by default.
@using Syncfusion.EJ2.FormBuilder
@Html.EJS().FormBuilder("formBuilder")
.Render()
Step 2: Wire it up in the controller
using System.Web.Mvc;
public class HomeController : Controller
{
public ActionResult Index()
{
return View();
}
}
Step 3: Run the application
Press Ctrl+F5 to run the application in your browser. Drag fields from the palette onto the canvas, configure them in the property panel, preview the form, and export the JSON schema when needed.
