DevExpress.AIIntegration.Wpf contains DevExpress AI-powered extensions (behaviors) for WPF applications. The package doesn't contain any controls. Instead, it adds AI capabilities to DevExpress WPF controls available as separate packages. You can attach a behavior to a control and the control gains an AI-driven feature.

Key Features

  • Flexible AI Provider Integration: Supports OpenAI, Azure OpenAI, Semantic Kernel connectors, and self-hosted models such as Ollama.

  • AI Assistant Menu: AIToolsBehavior adds a menu of AI operations to a control. Handle the CustomizeMenuEventArgs event to change the set of available commands.

  • Text-Editing Behaviors: SummarizeBehavior, TranslateBehavior, ProofreadBehavior, ExpandBehavior, ShortenBehavior, ChangeToneBehavior, ChangeStyleBehavior, and ExplainBehavior process the current selection. CustomRequestBehavior sends your own prompt.

  • Smart Autocomplete: SmartAutoCompleteBehavior suggests text completions in TextEdit and MemoEdit.

  • Smart Paste: SmartPasteBehavior distributes clipboard content across appropriate fields in TableView, TreeListView, CardView, and LayoutControl.

  • Smart Search and Semantic Search: SmartSearchBehavior searches ribbon commands in a ThemedWindow and items in an AccordionControl. SemanticSearchBehavior performs meaning-based searches in GridControl.

  • Prompt-to-Expression: PromptToExpressionBehavior and AIExpressionGenerationSettings generate valid expressions from natural language descriptions in the Expression Editor and Filter Editor.

  • Document Behaviors: DocumentSummarizeBehavior, DocumentTranslateBehavior, and DocumentTranslateInlineBehavior process documents in RichEditControl, SpreadsheetControl, PdfViewerControl, and DocumentPreviewControl.

  • Specialized Behaviors: ExplainFormulaBehavior explains a spreadsheet formula in plain language. GenerateImageDescriptionBehavior generates alt text for images.

Examples

Register an AI Service

Register a chat client at application startup:

using Azure.AI.OpenAI;
using DevExpress.AIIntegration;
using Microsoft.Extensions.AI;
using System;
using System.ClientModel;
using System.Windows;

namespace MyApplication {
    public partial class App : Application {
        static App() {
            IChatClient chatClient = new AzureOpenAIClient(
                new Uri("YOUR_AZURE_OPENAI_ENDPOINT"),
                new ApiKeyCredential("YOUR_OPENAI_API_KEY"))
                    .GetChatClient("YOUR_MODEL_NAME").AsIChatClient();

            AIExtensionsContainerDesktop.Default.RegisterChatClient(chatClient);
        }
    }
}

Attach a Behavior in XAML

Behaviors are attached through dxmvvm:Interaction.Behaviors:

<Window
    xmlns="http://schemas.microsoft.com/winfx/2006/xaml/presentation"
    xmlns:x="http://schemas.microsoft.com/winfx/2006/xaml"
    xmlns:dxre="http://schemas.devexpress.com/winfx/2008/xaml/richedit"
    xmlns:dxmvvm="http://schemas.devexpress.com/winfx/2008/xaml/mvvm"
    xmlns:dxai="http://schemas.devexpress.com/winfx/2008/xaml/ai">

    <dxre:RichEditControl>
        <dxmvvm:Interaction.Behaviors>
`AIToolsBehavior` adds multiple AI-powered operations to the control and provides a context menu that allows users to initiate these operations. For some behaviors, you need to implement your own UI to access operations and call the behavior's method.

            <dxai:AIToolsBehavior />
        </dxmvvm:Interaction.Behaviors>
    </dxre:RichEditControl>
</Window>

AIToolsBehavior adds multiple AI-powered operations to the control and adds a context menu that allows users to initiate these operations. With some behaviors, you need to implement your own operation access UI and call the behavior's method manually.

Demos

NOTE: Demo links below only work if you already have DevExpress WPF Demos installed on your machine. To install demos, download and run the DevExpress Unified Installer (evaluation or licensed version). Remember to select "Demo Applications" on the product selection screen.
