AI-powered Extensions for DevExpress Web Reporting Components
This package contains AI-powered extensions for the JavaScript-based Web Document Viewer and End-User Report Designer. Install it in your ASP.NET Core server-side project (.NET 8+). The extensions are available on the following platforms:
- ASP.NET Core (Razor Pages and MVC)
- Angular and React front ends with an ASP.NET Core backend
- Blazor (JavaScript-based reporting components)
Key Features
- Prompt-to-Report: Generates a complete report layout from a natural language prompt in the Report Wizard.
- Prompt-to-Expression: Allows users to create calculated field expressions and formatting rules from natural language prompts in Filter and Expression Editors.
- AI-powered Localization: Automatically translates localizable property values into target languages.
- Test Data Source: Generates realistic test data for report previews in the Report Designer without connecting to a real data source.
- Summarize: Generates a natural language summary directly in the viewer. Summarize the entire document, a page, or selected report content.
- Translate: Translates report content into a different language and displays the results in the AI Operations tab. Users can process the entire document, a page, or selected report content.
- Translate Inline: Translates report content directly in the document preview. Users can print or export translated reports. Pages with AI-generated translations are labeled so users can locate changes and revert to the original language.
Example: Integrate AI-powered Commands into an ASP.NET Core App
In an ASP.NET Core application with Web Document Viewer and Web End-User Report Designer, install the DevExpress AI Integration package:
dotnet add package DevExpress.AIIntegration.AspNetCore.ReportingInstall packages required for your preferred AI service. For additional information, see supported AI services.
In Program.cs, register your AI service and configure AI-powered extensions:
using Azure.AI.OpenAI; using DevExpress.AIIntegration; using DevExpress.AIIntegration.Reporting.Common.Models; using DevExpress.AspNetCore.Reporting; using Microsoft.Extensions.AI; var builder = WebApplication.CreateBuilder(args); // ... // Register DevExpress services for the Web Document Viewer and Web Report Designer builder.Services.AddDevExpressControls(); // ... IChatClient asChatClient = new AzureOpenAIClient(new Uri(azureOpenAIEndpoint), new System.ClientModel.ApiKeyCredential(azureOpenAIKey)) .GetChatClient(deploymentName).AsIChatClient(); // Register an IChatClient. builder.Services.AddSingleton(asChatClient); // Register AI-powered extensions for the Web Document Viewer and Web Report Designer. builder.Services.AddDevExpressAI(config => { config.AddWebReportingAIIntegration(cfg => // Add Summarize commands (Web Document Viewer and Report Designer Preview). cfg.AddSummarization(summarizeOptions => summarizeOptions.SetSummarizationMode(SummarizationMode.Abstractive) .SetTemperature(0.1f)) // Add Translate and Translate Inline commands for the specified languages (Web Document Viewer and Report Designer Preview). .AddTranslation(translateOptions => translateOptions.SetLanguages(new List<LanguageInfo> { new LanguageInfo { Text = "German", Id = "de-DE" }, new LanguageInfo { Text = "Spanish", Id = "es-ES" } }) .EnableTranslation() .EnableInlineTranslation()) // Add AI-powered report generation option in the Report Wizard (Web Report Designer). .AddPromptToReportConverter(options => options.FixLayoutErrors() .SetRetryAttemptCount(5)) // Add AI-powered expression generation in Expression and Filter Editors (Web Report Designer). .AddPromptToExpressionConverter() // Add AI-powered localization for localizable property values in the Localization Editor (Web Report Designer). .AddLocalization() // Add AI-powered test data option for report preview when no live data source is connected (Web Report Designer). .AddTestDataSource(tdsOptions => tdsOptions.SetRowCount(8)) ); }); // ...AI-powered commands are now available in the Web Document Viewer and Report Designer UI.
